The characteristics of the four states can be described for this subject area as follows:

dependent – Compliance is ensured by a certified management system
independent – Compliance is ensured through the implementation of systematic inspections by HSE specialists, the follow-up of defined measures and the involvement of superiors
interdependent – Compliance is ensured by involving supervisors and employees, jointly conducting inspections and encouraging employees to report observations
reactive – Compliance is ensured by (external) HSE specialists who carry out inspections based on local legal requirements
