Safety Culture State Review Index calculation

The Safety Culture State Review Index is calculated using a simple and easy-to-use formula.

1️⃣ Step 1: An index is determined for each individual dimension.
2️⃣ Step 2: The average value across all 20 dimensions is calculated.

This final value is defined as the Safety Culture State Review Index (SCSR-Index).

Step 1. Calculation of the index for a dimension – Index(i)

To calculate the index value for a dimension (Index(i)), the following formula is used:

Index(i) = (count(A) * 3pt + count(B) * 5pt + count(C) * 8pt + count(D) * 0pt) / (count(A) + count(B) + count(C) + count(D))

Example: Total participants: 25, of this: count(A): 10, count(B): 4, count(C): 2, count(D): 9

Index(i) = ((10 * 3) + (4 * 5) + (2 * 8) + (9 * 0)) / 25
Index(i) = 66 / 25 = 2,6

Step 2. Calculation of the Safety Culture State Review – Index

To calculate the Safety Culture State Review Index, the average is taken across all 20 dimensions.

SCSR-Index = average(Index(1) … Index(20))

Example – Index calculated for each subject area (1 to 20) acc. to step 1 –
(1): 4, (2): 4.9, (3): 2.2, (4): 4.2, (5): 2.4, (6): 4.3, (7): 2.9, (8): 3.7, (9): 4.3, (10): 3.5, (11): 3.8, (12): 3.7, (13): 3.9, (14): 3.4, (15): 2.9, (16): 3.7, (17): 4.9, (18): 2.3, (19): 1.8, (20): 4.3
