XIX. Involvement of subcontractors

Why?

Subcontractors have a significant influence on the reputation and economic success of large companies, especially when a major part of the activities are transferred to them. It is also irrelevant for the client whether the services to be provided are provided by the commissioned contractor or one of his subcontractors, since the applicable HSE requirements apply to all.

Therefore, a modern and future-oriented subcontractor management as part of the corporate culture is of outstanding importance. So far, companies have tried to regulate the selection of subcontractors using certified management systems, but in future it will be necessary to fully integrate subcontractors into the HSE processes and procedures in the company.

The meaning of the four states

The characteristics of the four states can be described for this subject area as follows:

	dependent – HSE rules are drawn up for subcontractors, which must be confirmed in writing. Before the order is placed, an HSE data query is carried out by the purchasing department. Accidents are included in the company statistics and investigated
	independent – Subcontractors are involved in HSE measures, processes and communication. An integrated subcontractor management concept covers the entire order cycle and mapping in a risk profile. There is an exchange of experience with all subcontractors at least once a year (HSE subcontractor day)
	interdependent – Subcontractor employees are treated as if they were our own and are involved in all HSE-related measures, processes and communication. Specific behavioral training will also be introduced for subcontractor employees. Subcontractors are also enforced to report observations
	reactive – Subcontractors are not considered
